Italian cuisine is preferred and loved by many worldwide, and I am no exception to that tasty little fact. Biscotti at The Four Seasons in Bangkok is my go-to place for hearty and delectable Italian fare.
The kitchen is open so you can watch the chefs in action; the ambiance, decor and crowd are refined, and the staff is welcoming and professional.
A few weeks ago I visited Biscotti for some palate pleasing dishes. I am a fan of scallops so when I spotted roasted scallops on the menu, I was delighted. They soon arrived in style, accompanied by salad and porcini mushrooms. Scallops are quite tricky and difficult to get right, so I was pleased by how well-cooked and succulent they were, plus the balsamic and crisp worked well with them too.
Next was the Duo of Duck Foie Gras on toasted Brioche that tasted luxurious with the honey and marmalade. We ordered a bottle of Echeverria Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany our meal.
Time for the entrée and I was not disappointed with the Chilean Sea Bass that was presented artistically on a bed of garden peas, served with mushrooms in a delicious creamy lemon sauce.
Then came my favorite dish – Home Smoked Lobster Risotto. In it were diced tomatoes, basil leaves and more lobster. The essential ingredient that brings them all together harmoniously is the Vanilla bean, as it gives this dish such a special aroma – the kind of scent you remember for a long time.
For dessert, we had Classic Panna Cotta with fresh berries and also Caramello Spuma that arrived in a dramatic cloud (from the dry ice) like a famed performer at a theatre. It had layers of sweet milky foam, almond crumbs and refreshing coffee granita at the bottom, and biscotti on top of course!
On a previous occasion, I also tried their famous Focaccia with Mascarpone cheese filling, and drizzled with truffle oil. However, the warm, kind and talented Chef Daniele, who usually greets diners personally, headed over to our table and shaved some black truffle to top off the Focaccia for us – talk about special icing!
For now I say Ciao to this chow, and I can sum up by confidently saying that the food at Biscotti is truly Bellissimo.
