Karmakamet – an escape to a secret world

Karmakamet - a secret world in the middle of SukhumvitEarlier this week when I was in Bangkok, I got a chance to drop by Karmakamet Diner for brunch. I had heard excellent things, and it really turned out to be a charming spot and a secret escape.

Finding the place could prove to be a bit tricky. Located in Sukhumvit, in Soi Matheenivet (between Emporium shopping mall and Benjasiri Park), it is in a small lane on the left side just after you pass Emporium Suites and Emporium’s parking building – quite the secret world indeed!

And then I saw it; a delightful and rustic oasis that you wouldn’t guess existed right behind a fancy shopping mall. I entered this beautiful space and its air was filled with wonderful aromas – the scents just drew me in as it should. This cafe is part of the Karmakamet brand, well known for their essential oils and aromatic products.

The entrance of Karmakamet The decor

The décor inside had a vintage feel; it was retro and intriguing. Table mats look like old newspapers, folded envelopes serve as coasters, baskets and fabrics hang like ornaments and medicine bottles are in abundance on shelves.

It’s been made to resemble an old warehouse and the owner’s nostalgia is apparent. Check out what’s written on the table mat, for instance!

Coffee - a flat white! Newspaper table mats

I sat at a cozy table by the window that overlooked the small garden (there were few tables outside too), ordered a flat white and waited for my partners in crime to arrive!

Soon after, this was the food that arrived at our table.

Panini, Eggs Benedict and PastaThe handsome looking Eggs Benedict that came with smoked salmon and spinach were bathed in Hollandaise sauce. We also enjoyed a beautiful plate of pasta – Penne in tomato sauce with cheese and Kalamata Olives and a Panini with Eggplant and Portobello Mushrooms.

It was time for dessert and the Lemon Mille Feuille was delicious, but we were so excited to see cotton candy (Yayy!). I’m sure many of you love cotton candy too, and there was definitely a nostalgic feeling attached to this.

Lemon Mille Feuille along with cotton candy Decided to linger and try some tea too.

A few more shots of the restaurant and a section that also sells their signature fragrant products:

It’s a relaxing and peaceful spot in the city. Doesn’t it look like a lovely respite from the concrete jungle that is Bangkok?
