Now that the parties and holidays are officially over, I am back to spill some beans. Though the transition from one year to another is just a day’s difference, it’s still a good time to reflect on the past year and most certainly count your blessings. Travel is one of the greatest blessings, so here are my most memorable travel moments of 2013.
Earlier this year I visited India and returned to one of my favorite places in the world, Srinagar, Kashmir. I got to experience the amazing Shikara ride on Dal Lake at sunset again.
I also made it to Ladakh, where the landscapes are unique and inspiring. Visiting Pangong Lake was a highlight. It took 5 hours each way via rough, hilly and snowy roads but the breathtaking views made it worthwhile.
Mid-year I returned to the ever beautiful and romantic Paris, and this was one of the first glances I got of the stunning Eiffel Tower.
Few things can prepare you for the beauty of Dubrovnik, Croatia and its charming architecture. The view atop the Srd Hill was magnificent and walking the old city walls was truly memorable. Cruising the Dalmatian Coast on our private boat was pretty awesome too! We jumped into the crystal clear water for a swim and witnessed a spectacular sunset.
The day trip to Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina was a moving experience. You still see remnants of the war, like this abandoned building with bullet holes. And although it was a really hot day (40 degrees Celcius) the view of Stari Most (Old Bridge) was highly rewarding.
Montenegro was another unique and fantastic country. We had very memorable experiences of jet-skiing in Kotor Bay, seeing the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks and climbing up St. Ivan’s Fortress at dusk.
Florence was extra special as I celebrated my 30th birthday there. I especially loved this sight as we approached Piazza del Duomo and the highlight was getting to see Michelangelo’s famous statue of David in real – just remarkable!
The architecture of Rome did not fail to impress and the Colosseum was glorious as ever. The true icing however, was watching the friendly football match between Italy and Argentina at Stadio Olimpico – Wow!
I end this post with a picture of my lovely hometown, Pattaya. Travel teaches you to appreciate things around you more. I mean, what’s the point of seeing lands afar when you can’t appreciate the beauty of what’s right under your nose?
Resolutions are often associated to New Year’s but in truth, we all know that NOW is always the best time to act and make any necessary improvement in our lives.
The New Year is a great reminder to be thankful for what we have and to embrace all of life’s little moments. 2013 was kind to me and I look forward to an even better 2014. I wish all of you a spectacular 2014 and hope it’s filled with beautiful moments.
